Thor Pederson decided to visit every country in the world without ever taking the plane, and that means it has no choice but to move cargo ship cargo ship.

VICE: Why did you move on cargo ships?
Thor Pedersen: People who have visited all the countries of the world are less than 200, and all they did it on the plane.
I travel for three years and I visited 121 countries.
I never got home and I never got on the plane.
And if you have to cross an ocean, the ways to do this are quite reduced.
Let's say that almost inevitably have to embark on a cargo ship.
But no long trips?
The project I'm working keeps me very busy.
Study the situation of visas or customs, meet people, or members of the Red Cross, or printing.
When I travel on a cargo ship it is as if you took me a break.
Without the Internet I can work two to four days, then there's nothing I can do.
So I do what I can, and then detachment completely.
And when you have nothing to work with, what do you do?
On these ships, through desalination, the water is sweet surrender, so there's water for free, and even hot: let it pass from the engines, which are incredibly hot.
So on these ships you can get showers even long hours without feeling guilty about the environment.
You can sleep.
Read a book.
I spend a lot of time on the bridge, because when you're there you know everything that goes on.
These ships also offer the luxuries?
The last cargo ship on which I got offered a sauna and an indoor pool.
Sometimes there is WiFi.
I've seen the Northern Lights, dolphins and whales.
It can be extraordinary.
But usually I only see water.
Have you ever been afraid?
Once, while we were sailing in the North Atlantic, we would have to reach their destination in a week, but we ran into a terrible storm and I was sure I would die.
The ship was tossed everywhere, the waves broke the container, and had also broken pieces of the ship.
We had to reduce speed to four knots.
If you do not stick to anything, in those cases, come catapulted anywhere.
I asked, "Is this normal?"
and they died laughing.
They replied, "Son, this is really nothing."
He was very reassured.

It lasted four days.
Can you sleep even with rough seas?

It is difficult to climb on cargo ships.
There are few in the world that give you a cabin.
You can go on a travel agency site for cargo ships or call the ticket and sectors directly.
I've never done.

The days when you could embark and work are over.
Today we need permits of all kinds to work on a cargo ship.
You are a possible source of problems for the ship, and have no reason to fartici rise.
Many ports have security measures such that you can not even get into it.
Life on board vessels is reduced to: work, eat, sleep, pass the time.
A passenger interferes with this routine.
And why you are different?
I travel as a Goodwill Ambassador of the Danish Red Cross, and sometimes this opens up the doors, especially with the captains and other officers on board.
Something like that, they appreciate it.
It is for 40 years, maybe, going to sea.
They already lived a thousand experiences.
They are curious to know who is the madman who is traveling the world without airplanes.
So they treat me like a king.
They have dinner with the captain.
And it cost?
Once they charged me $ 15 a day for the cabin and food, and a $ 60 insurance.
And they wanted me to write a story about how wonderful it is to travel on a cargo ship.
And the other times?
Always free.
Towards the end of the trip you visit a myriad of independent small islands in the Pacific.
